Russ and the Lombardi Trophy |
Our first stop in Ohio was at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton OH. The Hall was prepping for the August induction of this years' Inductees.
The Hall of Fame is a celebration of the history of football, records made, and the individuals who excelled at the game. The bottom floor of the museum takes you on a walk down memory lane of the history of football from 1892 to now. It was surprising to us how many names and events we recognized. The second floor has a section full of artifacts organized thematically. They had jerseys and game balls from lots of players with important records like Brett Favre, Sonny Jergensen, Roger Staubach and Joe Montana. They had the ball the Art Monk caught when he set his record.
Busts of all of the inductees are mounted in another area on panels for the years they were inducted. We hunted for and found the busts for John Riggins, Joe Gibbs and Art Monk. Along the way we found Russ Grimm, and Sonny Jergensen. Honestly, long, dimly lit rooms with thousands of busts on the wall were overwhelming. It was nice to find familiar faces among them.
