In Search of Inland Seas, Fairfax VA (July 2, 2014)

We were home long enough to plant the gardens, take care of a few projects and throw a party and then suddenly it was time to hit the road again!  This trip will be to the North Country, exploring 3 of the Great Lakes.  We plan to start at Lake Erie, visiting friends/family.  Then we will explore Lake Huron and cross over to Lake Superior.  We hope to end our adventure with more family in Minnesota.  Thank you to everyone who gave us good ideas for places to visit.

The Great Lakes are the largest freshwater system on earth.  They contain 84% of the fresh water in North America and 21% of the fresh water in the world.  Stand on the shores of these enormous lakes and you won't see Canada on the other side.  They have unique weather systems, and storms as ferocious as hurricanes.  Some of the shorelines are home to significant urban metropolitan areas - Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago.  Other parts of the shorelines are rural or still very natural.

We are looking forward to exploring them!
