We had heard about the Lazy Days driving school from someone
we met last summer in Maine. Even though
we have been driving the RV for 2 years now, we thought that we might pick up
some new information. We did, it was
worth our time and money.
The RV Drivers Confidence Course starts with 2.5 hours of
classroom instruction. They teach a
method of marking your mirrors with small opaque colored dots that indicate
where certain things that you cannot see in your mirrors (like your back tires)
are located. You use the dots to help
you make turns and pull in to parking spaces.
At some intersections, they also have you pull forward until your hips
are in line with the edge of the road you are turning onto, before you start
your turn. After all, our front tires
are underneath our hips where we sit, and we don’t want to turn until there is
a spot for the tires to turn to. Clever
stuff.
The afternoon was spent practicing what we learned in a 35
foot diesel pusher with air brakes. It
made us appreciate our little 29.5 foot gas model when we got home. We have placed the dots and have found them
really useful. We don’t have any photos
for this blog post, it really wasn’t a photogenic event.
